Bio
Adriana Bertini is a Brazilian multidisciplinary artist, activist, and educator based in São Paulo. Born in Porto Alegre in 1971, she has developed an independent practice spanning visual arts, textile experimentation, wearable sculpture, installation, performance, and participatory education. Since founding EcoSocial Studio in 1995, she has explored how art can connect bodily experience with collective care and social change.
Her work brings sexual and reproductive health, human rights, cultural diversity, and environmental justice into dialogue. Through unconventional materials—including unused condoms, textile fragments, discarded objects, and biomedical elements—she investigates the relationships between body, material, territory, and care. Her ongoing Condom Couture practice transforms a familiar object of prevention into a sculptural language that addresses sexuality, stigma, protection, and autonomy.
Bertini’s practice extends beyond the exhibition space. Working with communities, young people, cultural institutions, and public health organizations, she develops workshops, collaborative artworks, and educational projects that combine artistic experimentation with dialogue and shared knowledge. Projects such as BodyTerritory | Corpo Território connect creative processes with questions of identity, rights, health, and belonging.
Her work has been exhibited in Brazil and internationally and documented in books, museum publications, and academic research. Her relationship with the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and the Fowler Museum reflects the intersections between her artistic production, education, and public engagement.
Her current research expands these connections through climate justice, sustainability, and planetary health, exploring how bodies and environments are shaped by interconnected conditions. Across artworks, public interventions, and collaborative projects, Bertini approaches art as a space for critical reflection, participation, and the creation of possibilities for collective care.
